Diploma in Single Malt Whisky
The only course of its kind: an SQA-certified whisky qualification. Written and delivered by industry experts, the diploma offers their knowledge, insight, experience and judgement.
Single Malt Whisky is the jewel in whisky’s gleaming crown. Over two days, the diploma course covers everything from its fascinating history and commercial development to how the subtleties of production and maturation both create and enhance flavour. You’ll also learn the sensory skills needed to successfully nose a whisky and conduct a tasting session.
The diploma is a non-residential course taught at Arniston House; a magnificent Palladian-style mansion located near Gorebridge. Transport is provided to and from central Edinburgh on both days (Motel One-Royal is the pickup point, very close to Waverley station). The course includes breakfast, a two-course lunch and snacks each day (all dietary requirements considered). Day 1 includes a private tour of the local distillery (Glenkinchie), while Day 2 includes a tasting of world whiskies. Two modules (History & Business) are delivered as pre-reading material which you’ll receive electronically upon purchase. These modules are assessed, we’d recommend setting aside six hours to study the material in advance.
When you pass the Assessment, you’ll receive your SQA certificate in the post. In order to pass, you must achieve 60% in each of the seven modules. You’ll need to re-sit any module where you do not achieve 60%. Where possible, we’ll use our network of invigilators to assist with any re-sit required.
